Buy a Last STEP Bag to Support Our Mission

Our Last STEP Bags are the final project of our sewing job training program — Sewing and Textile Employment Pathways (STEP).

Every member of our STEP program starts with little-to-no sewing experience and are often unemployed. To qualify, they must earn less than 80% of local median income. Upon entry, this program pays its working learners $20 per hour, teaching them the skills to qualify for steady employment and sewing jobs. The Last STEP Bag is their capstone project after spending hundreds of hours sewing pillowcases, quilts, and learning the sewing trade.

To complete the program, each participant must make three bags in three styles and each with a perfect finish. We allow our participants to take bags with them to interviews to show — "I'm trained, employable, and qualified for this job." Our staff are so proud of our worker's determination and accomplishments. We felt these bags should be celebrated and shouldn't just sit in our shop.

When you buy a Last STEP Bag, you're buying a one-of-a-kind creation and all funds support our nonprofit changing the world with sewing.
